Safeguarding

At school, we must follow a simple principle, ‘Never Go Home with a Concern.’ Birkett House regards its responsibility to safeguard pupils with the upmost importance. Keeping pupils safe is our ‘golden thread’ that can be seen and felt in every element of the school's work and staff are empowered to report a concern or worry. Staff receive regular safeguarding training and there is Governor oversight of this work.

If you would like to read our Safeguarding Policy in more depth, it can be found in the polices section and this will clearly identify how we will deal with a concern. Because Birkett House operates across a variety of sites, we ensure there are members of staff with Designated Senior Lead training within the class as well as the Headteacher, Deputy Head and Assistant Heads are also trained. The school also employees a Family Support Worker who plays a central role in supporting families and addressing concerns rapidly.

It may also be helpful to know that the Authority requires Headteachers to report any obvious or suspected child abuse to Social Care. This duty is not something we consider lightly, and we hope that you will recognise that the school has to act in what was believed to be in the child’s best interest.

Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility.

You can also contact Leicestershire Support Services, called First Response, 0116 3050005, if you have an immediate concern.

Concerns that are non-urgent and supportive of your parenting, you can self-refer to Early Help or talk to a member of staff who may be able to help you complete any forms.
