Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

I was appointed as Chair of Governors by the Board of Governors in September 2022, and it is an honour to be involved in leading this team of governors and teachers of Birkett House.

I follow in the footsteps of my predecessor Andy McQuaid, who has been chair for the last 4 years and has been a supportive, approachable and inciteful chair. I hope we will build on the school’s and Andy’s achievements during my tenure.

Our school is a vibrant place with talented and dedicated staff whose continuous aim is to bring out the best in children. As each student has specific and individual needs our staff ensure that they receive a bespoke education that follows not only the national curriculum but one that is suitable for them. The school’s primary aim is to help students to achieve the very best they can in a safe and caring environment, so that when they leave they are prepared for the challenges of life outside of school.

As governors we are here to support the Head Teacher, Senior Team, teachers and ancillary staff to ensure that the school remains focused upon this objective, considers the future aims and vision of the school, delivers its statutory and regulatory obligations and continues to be financially viable in the delivery of its services.

The board of governors bring a range of experience and skill to the school with backgrounds in education, finance, business, and as parents. Each member plays an important role in supporting and monitoring the performance of the school, whether through sub-committees or during classroom visits and is involved in determining the strategy for the school in years to come. We are always looking to grow and develop the school’s governing body, so if you think you might have something you can bring to the school, please get in touch with the school’s admin team to arrange an informal chat.
