Welcome to our Governors’ section.
Challenge. Achieve. Celebrate
I am pleased, as Chair of Governors, to introduce our school.
We have a dedicated and hardworking staff who provide a highly specialised learning plan that is designed to meet the special needs of each student.
We provide full access to the subjects of the National Curriculum and teachers also concentrate on developing students’ communication, independence and social skills.
All school governers live locally and work closely with the staff to ensure that the school budget is used wisely to ensure the best possible education.
Our main site is in Wigston, in a brand new building opened in September 2017. We also have our own units nearby within a primary school, a middle school and at Countesthorpe College where we have a purpose-built centre for our senior students which also includes the opportunity for horticulture and performance arts. All the sites offer opportunities for inclusion in many of the activities of the mainstream schools.
At our new Wigston site, we have been able to introduce immersive technology together with newly equipped soft play and sensory rooms. In addition to the swimming pool there are specialist rooms to enable students to develop different skills. All the classrooms are large and have access to outdoor space where there is a wide range of equipment to provide fun and to extend students’ confidence and abilities.
Birkett House School offers a caring and stimulating environment where each student can meet every new challenge … can achieve many new successes… and can celebrate every new step forward.
